A salon with open slots and no one walking in is leaving revenue on the table. Google Posts, the short, visible announcement feature in your Google Business Profile, can fill those gaps. A well-timed post saying "Open now, 15-minute wait" shows up above your photos when someone nearby searches for "salon near me" or your salon name. That's a direct line to walk-in traffic when you need it most.

When to Post: Match Your Quiet Hours

Identify your slowest times each week. Most salons see dips mid-week and mid-day: Tuesday through Thursday, 10am to 2pm. Those are your walk-in opportunity windows. Schedule a Google Post for Tuesday at 10am, Wednesday at 9:30am, Thursday at 1pm. The post should go live 30–60 minutes before your actual slow period so people nearby have time to see it, decide, and travel to you.

Structure the Post for Mobile and Search

Google Posts are short and visual. Text limit is around 300 characters, and most readers are on mobile. Lead with the action. "Open now, walk-ins welcome" is better than "Hi, we have some slots available today if you're interested in coming by."

Add a photo of your salon interior or a client in the chair. Google gives a slight boost to posts with images. If you have a current wait time sign in your salon, photograph that and post it. Real-time imagery builds urgency and trust.

A walk-in post is only useful if it's true right now. Post it 30 minutes before the window opens, then delete it or refresh it when your slots close.

The Workflow: Post, Monitor, Refresh

Don't set it and forget it. Schedule posts ahead of time using Google Business Profile's scheduling feature, but check them daily during that time window. If you post at 10am but you're fully booked by 10:30am, delete the post. A live post claiming you're open when you're not wastes people's time and damages your profile credibility.

Track which posts drive foot traffic: ask walk-ins how they found you, log it, and compare against your post schedule. If Tuesday morning posts consistently bring people and Thursday afternoon posts don't, adjust. This data tells you which time windows are actually winnable.

Pair Posts With Your Availability Signal

If your salon uses an online booking system, make sure your Google Business Profile shows your current availability: "Open until 6pm" or "Closed Monday." A Google Post saying "Walk-ins welcome" paired with a profile showing "Closed" will confuse customers and kill trust. They sync; check both before posting.
